| The Te Uri o Hau Settlement Trust is the legal entity set up to receive the settlement from the Crown for historical grievances against Te Uri o Hau. The trust consists of eight elected representatives or trustees – two each from Oruawharo, Otamatea, Arapaoa and Waikaretu marae.
Each marae holds annual elections to select their representatives to the Trust. Marae delegates can be trustees on the Trust for a maximum of three years.
The Te Uri o Hau Settlement Trust oversees both the commercial and social aspects of the tribe’s operations. The Trustees are accountable for every decision made by either of the Trust’s subsidiaries or entities.
In this way the tribe’s desire to have a say in all aspects of Te Uri o Hau tribal development is being met.
