Te Uri o Hau has entered into a joint venture with Christchurch-based New Zealand Lands Trust to develop 650 hectares of land at Mangawhai.
It is a significant initiative for the Trust that will create jobs and further commercial opportunities for beneficiaries, as well as adding a new tourism attraction to the Northland network.
The Trust has considered a range of options for the Mangawhai site, but the key considerations were conservation and recreational use, balanced with long term economic use.
Te Uri o Hau recognizes the importance of the contribution of the local community who will be consulted on land use and management options the tribe developed for the site.
