While the Te Uri o Hau Settlement Trust, commonly referred to as "the Trust", has overall responsibility for all activities carried out under the Trust's name, it has delegated its commercial and welfare roles to semi autonomous boards who make recommendations to Trustees.
On the following pages you will learn about the roles and functions of those boards and the services they provide, and get a picture of the sorts of activities they are involved in on a daily basis. The boards are made up of a mix of professional and practical expertise, mostly from within the tribe, as well as people who stay at nga kainga o Te Uri o Hau keeping the home fires burning.
With everything the Trust is involved in it has developed the mantra: patience and vision.
Patience means giving the Trustees space to grow the assets; vision is about seeing the future clearly instead of living in the now.
The Trust is committed to building the internal and tribal capacity of Te Uri o Hau to be able to stand on its own feet. What you see here is just the first step.
Waiho i te toipoto,
Kaua i te toiroa
Let us keep close together,
Not wide apart
