Marae

There are 14 Te Uri o Hau marae.  These are;

2. Aotearoa (Otamatea)

4. Waikaretu (Pouto)
5. Naumai ( Ruawai)
6. Ngatai Whakarongorua (Tinopai)
7. Oturei (Dargaville)

11. Te Kowhai (Ruawai)
12. Te Pounga (Kaiwaka)
13. Waiohou (Tinopai)

The trust consists of eight elected representatives or trustees – two each from one of the four ancestral marae Oruawharo, Otamatea, Arapaoa and Waikaretu.  At election time, each marae selects by way of a vote who their representative will be on the Trust.  Marae delegates can be trustees on the Settlement Trust board for a maximum of three years.

The Te Uri o Hau Settlement Trust oversees both the commercial and social aspects of the tribe’s operations. The Trustees are accountable for every decision made by either of the Trust’s subsidiaries or entities.
