Hanerau Farms Ltd

Hanerau Farms Ltd (HFL) a subsidiary of Renaissance Group Ltd owns a 242ha dairy farm with 560 milking cows at Taipuha and a 176ha block at Tanoa which is where cows from the dairy unit are wintered for two months each year to grow replacement stock and it also provides silage and hay.

HFL also manages maori land on behalf of their owners.  By leasing small sections of land, HFL can increase its capital development for the benefit of the entire hapu.

Of recent, HFL has successfully managed itself through one of the worst Northland droughts and delivered a surplus before interest, depreciation and impairments.  It has been able to achieve this result without calling on the cash resources of either RGL or the Settlement Trust.

Hanerau Farms also entered the Ahuwhenua Trophy, a competition to find the best Maori dairy farm in New Zealand.  The farm was one of three finalists - numerous financial prizes were received along with a finalist medalion.  Feedback from the competition judges has allowed the team at Hanerau to develop a plan which will improve the economic value of the farm over the next two years at least.

The current board of directors for the HFL are Earle Wright, Rawson Wright and Thomas de Thierry.  HFL is awaiting to formalize the appointment of Malcolm Welsh.  The general manager of HFL is Roger Taylor who oversees the dairy unit (run by Dean & Tania Mischeski (50/50 Sharemilkers)) and the beef unit (managed by Bill Paikea).
